MGM’s CityCenter Gets A Reprive

MGMMirage was expected to file their CityCenter project for bankruptcy today due to an interest payment that was due with Dubai World. By the end of the day the payment was made – without Dubai World’s help, and the project continues.

Recently Willis Insurance Group signed a long term lease within the Sears tower – and also received naming rights to rename the building Willis Tower. Not only that, but the price the lease was signed for is so low that it shows just how willing landlords are to negotiate on price.

A lot has happened with the project in the past week – MGM & Deutsche Bank stopped talking about merging CityCenter with the Cosmo, Hilton signed a management contract for the Cosmo, and a suddenly a re-do of the interior design of at least one tower of the Cosmo has been ordered.

A bill is being worked on in the House of Representatives lifting the travel embargo with Cuba for American citizens – but in order for it to really work, and for America to really benefit from it – the trade embargo needs to be lifted or significantly lessened simultaneously.

Last week I wrote about the rebranding attempt by the owners of the Tropicana Atlantic City.. The only problem was the rebranding was mainly intended for the Tropicana Las Vegas property – with the hope that it can be extended to Atlantic City if Columbia Sussex is able to regain control of the property. Hmm. Interesting details the local papers leave out isn’t it?
