Metro Bank’s New Website Launched
Earlier today Metro Bank launched its new redesigned website which can be found at http://www.mymetrobank.com. Starting immediately they have transferred their website to the new site and apparently have a new online banking for existing customers.
I’m not a Metro Bank customer – but I love what Vernon Hill has done with Commerce Bank and I see him finishing what he originally set out to do with Commerce Bank before he resigned. Currently Metro Bank’s website is still advertising that it serves “Central Pennsylvania” leaving out any indications that it will be quickly expanding into South Jersey and Delaware. Not only that but the Republic First Bank purchase isn’t even mentioned on the site except in news release areas.
Granted, the Republic First Bank purchase hasn’t closed yet – its expected to close in the third quarter of 2009, but I’m a little surprised to see no mention of their growth outside of their Harrisburg, PA market.
I enjoy watching the growth of a branding powerhouse – which the Metro Bank brand will surely become. They’ve renamed the Commerce Bank Mascot to “Metro Man“, and are promoting even better coin counting machines and longer hours – their lobbies will be opened until 6PM on Monday – Wednesday instead of 5PM.
Random side note: what is wrong with every other bank in America that cannot stay open past 3PM on a weekday? Or open on a Sunday? Or keep their drive through open even later in the day? It just shows how stagnant and old school banks are. We are working in a 24-hour world now, having a bank open this late (like all TD Banks are) is such a benefit and one of the main reasons I switched to Commerce Bank/TD Bank a few years back.
The format of the website is still very similar to the old Commerce Bank website – they haven’t exactly paid millions to a design firm to make the site seem too flashy – but that’s always been the Commerce Way, their website has always been simple – while the stores and the customer service is where they spend most of their money. Which is fine by me.
No ideas or indications on any new Metro Bank store prototype – this I’m most excited in because I’m sure they are going to do a different look and appearance from the standard Commerce Bank/TD Bank prototype.
I’m going to be keeping an eye on Metro Bank – if there is anything great to report, I’ll be sure to pass it on.

They could have at least tested and gotten bugs out before trotting this horrible new system out. My wife was out of town and could not use here VISA/Debit card yesterday 6/14/09. Their online bill pay doesn’t work and pending transactions have suddenly disappeared. I can only hope this gets better.

I with you all!! this totally sucks
This merger has been nothing but a nightmare. first the website goes off on Friday night and you cant even access. Comes back up on Sunday, then the login dont work at mymetrobank.com . I go to buy groceries and my card doesnt work. Anyone experiencing major issues with this bank already? Ive been with them for many year and everything is screwed up in one day. They never sent out notifcation of the name change and just got the day the name changed. How odd is this? I am about to pull my accounts. I cant get anyone on the phone. I am on hold forever. then i call the bank branch and the woman isnt very helpful and rude. what happened to the customer service? Whats going on this bank?
metro you never launch a new name or website unless everything is working. you never take the old banks website down ever unless you can replace it with the new one right away. this thing hasbeen ridiuclous

Just Awful. I’m locked out of my online account. The poor tellers seem frazzled. One was even crying. Should have gotten all the kinks out of the system before switching over. Every time I call in they tell me their piece of crap system is offline. I’m changing banks. Whoever is in charge of this mess really needs slapped. Call the fed I want my money out and this bank needs closed until it’s fixed!

Vernon HIll was FIRED. He did not resign. The board terminated him for shady dealings with his wife and a few other of his family members.

Vernon officially resigned. He may have been forced out by the board – but that’s another story.

I visited Metro Bank’s website for the first time today and thought it was very user friendly. Sure their may be kinks but that’s to be expected with most new things. Be patient.
I wish Vernon and Metro Bank much success.

When Vernon opens a bank in Gloucester County NJ… I will be moving my personal and business account to Metro. Commerce was a great bank once I discovered Commerce when I moved to Washington Township NJ I was so happy to deal with a bank that serviced it’s customers especially during the time periods of the day that working people can get to the bank. I believe Commerce helped change banking hours (you know the old saying “what do you work banking hours?”…that is something younger people today would probably not understand. TD is nothing like Commerce and I hope Vernon brings the same customer service culture to Metro that Commerce Bank was famous for.

Robert, I could not agree with you more. Once Metro Bank opens in the Monmouth County area (probably not for a few more years) I will be immediately be moving from TD Bank. Since the TD takeover, Commerce has become the “big bank” that they said they would never be. Fortunately they are the lesser evil of the big banks – but you can still clearly see the direction they are heading in. Its ashame.
