Why I’ve Been So Quiet
For all those who frequently look to my blog, rss feed or email every day for a new post – you’ve probably noticed how I’ve been so quiet lately. There has been alot of news that I’ve wanted to cover or at least mention, and I’m going to still try to get that out – but mainly there’s been alot going on in the direction I want to take my career, and along with that the focus of this blog.
I created this blog to get the attention of Starwood Capital, and Starwood Hotels – two years ago the hotel development industry was growing like crazy, and except for the pessimests – no one really saw (or expected) this recession we are in now. To say the least – I never got a job, but I did get noticed, and even if I did get a job – I probably would have been laid off. I guess everything happens for a reason right?
I’m 26 years old, and I’m still trying to find a position or a career that is a long term career – a career that I can start at the bottom and climb to the top – and I have full expectations that I will climb to the very top of it. I’ve always been interested in commercial real estate and finance – not mortgages, not banking, but making real estate deals work, putting the packages together, so on and so forth. I’m still very interested in the hotel industry – but more in the ownership/asset management portion rather than the day to day management of a property.
With that I’ve decided that in order to get ahead, I need to differentiate myself – and Ive decided that I’m going to go toward my Masters Degree in Real Estate. It’s a two year program and while I fully expect it to be hard and time consuming – I’m really looking forward to it because its in a field that I really am interested in. I’m hoping that I can meet and make contacts in the industry and it will launch me into a direction I could never have dreamed previously. Additionally – by the time I graduate, the economy should be back in full force – although for those who are looking to get in on distressed assets – that work will start before the end of this year.
Oh well.
I have to keep reminding myself that I’m still young, I have alot more years left in me and the world is my oyster.
I look forward to keeping everyone posted about my journey, and If anyone knows of a part time position in real estate that can help me fund my masters program in the NYC area – let me know! I’m very interested

Good to hear from you Andrew.
Taking the time to evaluate your current position and where you want to be is common territory for myself. Its a great time to do so, being young as I am the same age as you. There are many years ahead of us still. This is a time to absorb as much information as possible and learn in this distressed time. When things do prevail you will be armed with the power and connections to make some things happen.
I have spent several years working in the front of the house, and the back, to realize I too do not want to be on that level. More so to be on the development side of things such as your self. You are taking a good step on going back to school. I recently made that jump and look forward to the steps ahead.
Keep after it…
Regards,
