Is Starwood Hotels Creating an aloft Residences Product??

| November 6, 2007 | 2 Comments

For months now there has been rumors that either a W Hotel or an aloft with a residential component is being built in Harlem, NY (see my past post here). It’s been a mystery as to what brand will actually be built. I personally find it hard to believe that Harlem can support a full-fledged W Hotel, yet at the same time, aloft’s do not have residences.

A few weeks back I came across a press release from Hicks Holdings and Gatehouse Capital which brought a little clarity to what could possibly be happening in Harlem, as well as a little insight into the possibility that Starwood is creating an aloft residences product which has really not been publicized yet.

The Press Release, dated October 23rd, 2007 announces Hicks Holdings & Gatehouse Capital is building both a Westin & an aloft hotel on a 10 acre mixed use development named Glorypark in Arlington, Texas. The hotels are scheduled to be completed in time for the 2011 Superbowl at the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium which is located next to the development. The Westin & the aloft will be composed of two separate highrise buildings, a 300-room, 36 story Westin, and a 18 story, 140 room aloft – but here’s the kicker.. The top floors of BOTH hotels will be composed of residences – “85 branded luxury residences atop the Westin, and 70 loft style residences above the aloft”. (Notice the lack of “branded” after 70 loft style)

The press release does not go into any further detail about the residences atop of the aloft, so its a very good possibility that its simply a mixed-use building, hotel on the lower levels, a residential component on the upper levels, but I find it hard to believe that they would build a residential component atop a hotel, yet not brand it as an aloft-residences project. Its true that the aloft hotel is a select-service hotel, meaning it does not have a full service restaurant on-site, nor does it have room service or alot of the other amenities that you would find in a luxury hotel, or typical hotel-residences project, but that would simply make the aloft-residences similar to any condo-only development that is being built in almost every city in America.

So it remains to be seen – is Starwood ready and willing to put the aloft brand on a residence component? Is the Hicks Holding & Gatehouse Capital project in Arlington similar to what rumored to be occurring in Harlem, NY?

We’ll have to wait and see..

Ok, This is awsome I think that this is real good, because if we can build more buildings like this in arlington then people get hired the population increases and as the pop. increases the more money the city gets to supply for the less fortunate and even suppling city buses better hospitals, schools, etc. the point is just this one thing will cange more and more every day and soon Arlington will be so healthy, educated, and fun that it will be just as awsome as living in dallas or chicago even new york so lets make this happen!
