UPDATE 10-16-07: FAQ of Sands Casino Implosion

Last week Pinnacle Entertainment sent out a press release giving the date and time of the Sand’s Casino implosion.

Pinnacle Atlantic City today announced that the implosion of the legendary Sands Casino Hotel will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2007 at 9:30 p.m. (rain or shine). The historic event marks the first casino-hotel implosion in Atlantic City and on the East Coast.

After the implosion a state of the art fireworks show by the famous Grucci family will occur.

That day of the week and time were chosen after traffic and pedestrian counts found that that was the least trafficked time period, thus lessening the impact that any road closures would have.

The area will be blocked off from all traffic and pedestrians approximately two blocks around the site, and they are expecting everything to be open the next morning. I hope that there will be designated staging areas so that people can have a clear view of the implosion – although I think I’ll stay home and watch this one on TV. I can imagine the place being a mob scene.
