I came across a pretty complete list of W Hotel Locations – existing, under construction and planned hotels. This list also contains information such as who the architect was, who the designer was, if the hotel was a conversion or new build, and the year the hotel was opened.

The document is noticeably out of date, as it still mentions the W Hotel Las Vegas opening in 2009 (the project was canceled earlier this year), and it notes that the W Hoboken will be open in 2007 (it still has another year till its open), yet it does mention a lot of projects that I was not aware of, so I wonder if they were canceled or details are still being worked out. The most surprising part of this document? It’s publicly available on Starwood’s Hotel Development website! It can be found on page 15.

I have also put together a Collection on Windows Live maps that shows the approximate (or exact, in some cases) for a number of future W’s being built in America. there are a few other W’;s that I know are supposed to be built, but I cannot find much information on them – like the W Minneapolis, W Providence, W Austin. And just as well,m there are a few W’s in the list above that I’m thinking may have been canceled – W Sunset, W Boston Theatre District Hotel and Residences (although I believe there is another W that is being built in Boston)

One hotel that I am very excited about is W Philadelphia – if anyone remembers, a number of years ago Will Smith (yes, THAT Will Smith) was funding a development that was supposed to build the W in the Society Hill – from drawings I saw – it was going to be a very low-key hotel in the middle of a residential section, but they were never able to get their act together – the site is still clearly viewable via aerial images. The W that is now scheduled to be build in Philadelphia will be located right next to the convention center and will be a high rise with residences.
